All EU countries except Finland and parts of Greece are still rated by the EU Coronavirus traffic light with the highest warning level of red. According to an update from today, besides Finland, only some regions of Greece are rated orange on the EU map to assess the coronavirus situation.
In contrast to the previous week now also the Azores belonging to Portugal are classified red. Green light only exists for Western Finland and Denmark’s autonomous territory Greenland.
Orange are marked in Greece Crete, the Kykladen, central Greece as well as the northwestern Peloponnese. Grey appeared on Thursday Liechtenstein, which means that the EU health agency ECDC does not yet have enough information for a re-evaluation.
Mid-November meeting of the heads of government
The EU Coronavirus Traffic Light was created following a decision by the EU Council to better coordinate restrictions on freedom of movement to contain the coronavirus pandemic within the EU. Since it is a recommendation to which the EU countries are not bound, criticism is levelled at the fact that the card does nothing to harmonize national regulations.
Across Europe, the number of infections has risen rapidly in recent weeks, and the measures taken in the individual EU countries vary. On November 19, EU heads of state and government will meet virtually to discuss the pandemic and the response to it once again.
